Psychotherapist & owner
Hi, I’m Emily.
I started my therapy practice in 2018 to fill the gaps I saw in traditional eating disorder treatment, and while I have now expanded my practice to other specialties, eating disorders will always remain an important part of my work. Eating disorders reveal a lot about the society in which they are created, and healing from an eating disorder is a tangled, beautiful journey to uncovering our true selves.
I specialize in treating disordered eating, sexuality and gender difficulties, and complex trauma. My specialties reveal a lot about how I like to work: I enjoy helping people navigate the complexities of how they feel about their bodies, their sexuality, and their past experiences. I enjoy the challenge of not knowing what we will find when beginning this therapy journey. Patients have described me as curious, warm, easy to talk to, and can easily make connections from the past to the present.
I identify as a proud lesbian and genderqueer woman. Growing up, I didn't see my identities so positively, but now I understand that they have enabled me to challenge the status quo and think differently.
I am also interested in exploring the deeper roots of our traumatic experiences and family of origin patterns, which can show up in unexpected ways, including:
- Trouble finding or maintaining close relationships
- Difficulty setting boundaries
- Challenges with trusting others
- Feeling “stuck” or repeating patterns over and over
- Low self-esteem and self-worth
- Difficulties in work and school
- Difficulty identifying what you want or need
I have worked in inpatient hospitalization, outpatient services, intensive outpatient, community mental health agencies, and now in my own therapy practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I received my masters in Community and Trauma Counseling from Thomas Jefferson University where I taught undergraduate Psychology as an adjunct instructor for four years. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania.
